Marisa Berenson - Movie Career

After her SuperModel Career Marisa was cast in several prominent film roles, including Gustav von Aschenbach's wife in Luchino Visconti's 1971 film "Death in Venice", the Jewish department store heiress Natalia Landauer in the 1972 film "Cabaret", and to this day is best friends with co-star Liza Minnelli, and the tragic beauty Lady Lyndon in the Stanley Kubrick film "Barry Lyndon" (1975). Though the last role has been her most well known, few reviews have commented on her performance; Vincent Canby of The New York Times merely stated, "Marisa Berenson splendidly suits her costumes and wigs."

A more recent Italian film has captured my attention  “I Am Love”.  Shot in 2009 in Venice it is a magnificent film with a stellar cast. Tilda Swinton also steals my heart in this film.

“I Am Love tells the story of the wealthy Recchi family, whose lives are undergoing sweeping changes. Eduardo Sr., the family patriarch, has decided to name a successor to the reins of his massive industrial company, and in so doing, surprises everyone by splitting power between his son Tancredi and grandson Edo. However, Edo dreams of opening a restaurant with his friend Antonio, a talented chef. At the heart of Tancredi’s family is his wife, Emma (Tilda Swinton), a Russian immigrant who has adopted the culture of Milan. An adoring and attentive mother, Emma’s existence is shocked to the core when she falls deeply in love with Antonio and pursues a passionate love affair that will change his family forever.”  (from www.iamlovemovie.com)

CLASSIC BEAUTY

MARISA BERENSON

Search the phrase “Classic Beauty” and the name Elizabeth Taylor is top on the list.  But another favorite of mine was dubbed by Yves Saint Laurent as “the girl of the Seventies”.

Marisa Berenson was a fashion model who came to prominence in the early 60’s and graced the covers of Time, Vogue, Glamour, Bazaar and more in the 70’s.  She told the New York Times “I once was one of the highest paid models in the world”. She was known as "The Queen of the Scene" for her frequent appearances at nightclubs and other social venues in her youth.

Berenson is a Classic Beauty.   Even now, or should I say especially now, she has a certain grace and elegance about her.  From runways to movies to fashion shows, she truly has a style all her own.  Always on the cutting edge of fashion and at all the style events – in my book - she is still “The Queen of the Scene”.

"Locks of Love"

What happens when you lose your hair?  Does anyone care?  It is one of the most humiliating parts of cancer.  Not only do you have to try to fight this uber invasive disease, but you lose your hair and the world sees that.  As the owner of a salon - I felt there was something I could do.  That is when I became involved in "Locks of Love"
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
If you are interested in donating your hair - come see me at Changez Salon in Royal Oak.
